How we use cookies and browser storage
Strictly necessary items are always active because the site cannot function without them: they keep administrators signed in, unlock the newsletter archive for your current session, remember your cookie choices, and protect our forms from automated abuse.
Everything else is optional and switched off until you turn it on. Nothing optional is written to your device, and no external video is loaded, before you make a choice. Refusing is exactly as easy as accepting, and refusing does not degrade the site: the audio player still works, and articles still read normally.
Categories
- Functional — remembers your audio playback position and speed.
- Analytics — measures how far articles are listened to, using a random identifier.
- External media — allows embedded YouTube or Vimeo videos to load. Until you allow this, a placeholder is shown instead of the video.

Changing your mind
You can change or withdraw your choices at any time. When you withdraw a category we also remove what that category had stored.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary items may stop forms, sign-in or the newsletter archive from working. For how we handle personal information generally, see our Privacy Notice.
