YOUR PRACTICAL GUIDE

The details that matter.

01

Employment permit renewals

Check whether your permit type can be renewed and when to apply.

Review the route-specific renewal conditions and use Employment Permits Online. Renewing an employment permit does not renew your immigration registration. Some routes are time-limited or have a separate progression process.

02

Change of employer

The CSEP/GEP change mechanism has specific conditions.

Generally available after nine months from first permit employment commencement. GEP changes stay within the same four-digit SOC occupation; CSEP within the same three-digit category. Check validity and approval requirements before changing jobs. Do not begin until the permit is reissued.

03

Redundancy: your permit

Permit notification and immigration status need separate attention.

CSEP/GEP holders must notify the department within four weeks using its form. Up to six months may be available to find other employment under the rules. This is not an automatic extension of an expired IRP. Contact ISD about residence permission when necessary.

04

Redundancy: employment rights

Employment rights are separate from permit administration.

Statutory redundancy generally requires age 16 or above, 104 weeks of continuous service and fully insurable employment. Notice and contractual rights also matter. Use the WRC guidance for entitlements and dispute options.
