YOUR PRACTICAL GUIDE

The details that matter.

01

Family reunification

The sponsor category, relationship and family circumstances determine the route.

Income, accommodation, dependency and waiting periods matter. The current policy generally allows Category B sponsors such as CSEP holders to apply without a waiting period; GEP/Category C sponsors generally wait one year. Graduate Stamp 1G holders are not sponsors under this policy.

02

Join your spouse or partner

Marriage or partnership alone does not decide immigration permission.

Use the route for the sponsor’s status. Eligible spouses or partners of GEP and ICT holders granted family reunification can have Stamp 1G work access. This is not a general entitlement for every dependant.

03

De facto partner

Evidence and the correct application location matter.

Check the sponsor-specific route and preclearance requirements before travel. Do not assume an unmarried partnership has the same application process as a marriage or that entry permission is automatic.
